Indigenous Knowledge info posterUN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) on Indigenous Knowledge

Indigenous Knowledge is the knowledge held collectively by an indigenous community. It is both founded upon generations of experience and wisdom and enriched by more recent experiences, thus giving rise to ingenious innovations.

Except for knowledge that are sacred and held by some individuals (e.g. by the Shamans) as custodians of those knowledge, all knowledge are accessible to members of the community. There is no real separation between our knowledge and practice - both are woven into a seamless relationship with our heritage. Hence, it is part of our heritage that cannot be compartmentalized into different components.
