This programme aims to promote the recognition of the rights of indigenous peoples and their roles in the protection and management of biodiversity. Thia programme includes two components. One is the Collaborative Management Learning Network, which is the continuing effort to build awareness and develop capacities of local communities, protected area authorities and NGOs/IPOs in collaborative management of protected areas. It aims to bring about legal and policy changes by consolidating and expanding the implementation, knowledge, acceptance and recognition of co-management approaches in state-protected areas and community-conserved areas. The second component is the engagement in processes linked to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to ensure that the commitments made by Parties to the CBD are implemented at the local, national and international levels. |
