‘The Asia Indigenous Peoples Pact (AIPP) is a regional organization established by indigenous peoples’ organizations in 1992 to strengthen the struggles, cooperation and solidarity among indigenous peoples across Asia. AIPP is committed to the cause of defending and revitalizing indigenous systems; institutions and their control over their ancestral homelands; and their own development and future.

AIPP is guided by its Charter and Working Guidelines agreed upon by its General Assembly. At present, AIPP has members from 14 Countries and has broad network for cooperation and solidarity with other organizations, institutions and advocates at national,regional and global levels.’

Call For Cases Related To Access To Land And The Right To Food

The Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food office opens a call for cases related to access to land and the right to food. Deadline for submission is 22 January 2010, and this report will be submitted/ addressed to the UN General Assembly in October 2010 by the SR on the Right to Food. Part of this process, two regional consultation meeting will be organized in Asia – one in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and the other in Chennai, India. The consultations will invite representatives from 8 cases selected by the Rapporteur and his research team. This consultation will also inform the UNGA report.

It is very much relevant to Indigenous Peoples in terms of land rights and food security.
